Toyota 1HD-FTE to AB60 200 Series LandCruiser Transmission Adaptor Kit

Complete billet adaptor set allowing the VDJ200 Series LandCruiser AB60 (6 Speed Automatic Transmission) to be utilised behind the legendary Toyota 1HD-FTE Engine!

UPDATED CONVERTER ADAPTOR! – We have updated our kit to now feature an Billet 6061 converter adaptor and chromoly spigot. The converter adaptor will come with the spigot already installed into to centre of it. This adaptor is lighter, easier to fit and looks awesome!

This will also work with other Toyota 1H/D variants such as 1HD-FT, 1HD-T, 1HZ etc as they share the same crank/bellhousing pattern. Note: if your engine is fully mechanical, a throttle position sensor will need to be fitted to the injector pump or the pedal for the auto controller. Additionally, electronic torque reduction won’t be applicable as there is no engine ECU. This is not an issue unless your engine output is over approximately 350hp / 900nm. 

This is our complete kit with Transmission Control Unit, Toyota Loom, all Adaptors, fitting hardware, etc.

Adaptor Kit Includes:

Notes:

This kit is designed to use the factory A442F HDJ100 4 speed automatic bellhousing, flex plate & counterweight. These parts will need to be sourced if you are converting from a manual vehicle, or a 5 speed automatic. This allows everything to bolt to the engine with factory hardware, as well as keeping the starter motor in the standard location. The A442F bellhousing requires slight clearancing internally to fit the 200 Series torque converter. This is easily done with a flapper wheel on a grinder or die grinder. The total length of the drivetrain is approximately 50mm longer than the factory A442F transmission. Typically, a small plate is welded on the backside of the existing gearbox crossmember, allowing the adaptor plate mount to bolt up. If converting from a manual vehicle, the crossmember will require a larger plate or to be modified as they don’t sit as far back from factory as an automatic crossmember does. Tail-shaft lengths will need to be modified to ensure correct slip-joint length.

105 Series Rear Tail Shaft Length – Approximately 1010mm from transfer case flange to pinion flange with AB60 installed.

Keep in mind before undertaking this conversion, while it is fairly straightforward for a competent mechanic, it is still very involved & will require custom work such as gear shifter/surround modification, low range shifter modification, wiring of TCU, modification of some existing parts etc. We will always offer support where we can!

The entire automatic transmission is plug & play. You will still need to join in these wires in the vehicle:

  • TPS wires at Pedal
  • 12V & Ground
  • Illumination wire
  • Reverse Light Wires
  • Brake Wire for Shifter Lock
  • Neutral Safety Start Wires
  • Transfer Case Low Range Switch
  • Torque Reduction Output

If the loom is going into an 80 Series/Patrol etc, there will be more custom wiring needed.

This kit / loom uses a 150 Series Prado Tiptronic Shifter. These can be purchased new from Toyota, or are available easily from a wrecker. As these shifters use a cable linkage, it means they can be mounted to anywhere in the cab with the cable running through the floor plan to the side of the transmission. The shifter gear position surround plugs directly into the loom, and will function / light up / shift like factory.

We have calibration files/base maps for the COMPUSHIFT to suit the 1HD-FTE. These will be close, but may need specific tuning to suit your vehicle (tyre size, power etc.) We offer auto tuning services to suit your vehicle after installation. This is all done through comprehensive Bluetooth software.

The Compushift outputs a torque reduction signal before & during a shift event. We utilise this for torque reduction during shift with either a UniChip or Boostec ECU. Boostec ECU allows quick & advanced torque reduction. We have developed a module for those still utilising a UniChip that allows the factory ECU to reduce fuel during a shift event. This module is wired into the ECU and is fully programmable for different reduction percentages under various engine loads.

  • Shifter & Calibration: Uses a 150 Series Prado Tiptronic shifter with cable linkage for flexible mounting and factory-style operation. Includes base COMPUSHIFT calibration files for the 1HD-FTE, with further tuning available to suit tyre size, power output and vehicle setup.
  • Torque Reduction Support: Supports torque reduction during shifts through UniChip or Boostec ECU integration, improving shift quality and transmission durability. Mechanical engines without an ECU cannot use this feature, although it is generally unnecessary below ~350 hp / 900 Nm.
